Overview
The Diploma in Translation module 1 course will prepare you for Unit 1: Written translation of a general text paper of the level 7 Diploma in Translation.
Through examination of past DipTrans Unit 1 papers, examiner reports and marking criteria, and bilingual reviewer feedback on your practice translations, your course will give you the knowledge and skills you need to pass Unit 1 of the Diploma in Translation.

Teaching and Learning
Each week you’ll join a 2-hour live class online. In this class you can work with your course tutor and interact with other students. After class, you’ll have self-study extension activities to build on your learning in the live class.
Practice and Assessment
Practice translations are set throughout the 7-week course, offering you a chance to practice your skills and receive feedback on your performance. The practice translations set during the course are all taken from DipTrans Unit 1 past papers.
In addition to your weekly on-line classes and feedback on your practice translations, you’ll have the opportunity for one-to-one tutorials with your bilingual reviewer and your course tutor. They will help you with all aspects of your learning on the course.
Completion and Qualification
On completion of your module 1 course, you’ll be ready to take the DipTrans Unit 1: written translation of a general text paper. You’ll also receive a Certificate of Completion confirming the training you have undertaken.
After completing this module, you can progress to the Diploma in Translation module 2: Specialised Translation course to prepare for your Unit 2 and Unit 3 semi-specialised translation papers.
Requirements
To participate in the course, you need to:
- Have some prior experience of professional translation work or a level 6 qualification in translation
- Have native or near-native language proficiency in English and your Other Language (spoken and written), at CEFR level C1/C2
- Be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week to study and research
- Be able to use Google Drive and Zoom on a computer or tablet
- Attend an interview with the course tutor
